Juice Pouch Update

It was a slow start, but many thanks to CityDance and The Washington Ballet@THEARC! The young ladies and gents participating in the free Summer Dance program have kindly agreed to give their used Capri Sun drink pouches to our collection effort for Malcolm X ES. We will send the pouches back to TerraCycle, who will send a check to Malcolm X. The message: being sustainable is green and can earn you green!

School Beautification Day is August 22!

This year's annual DCPS School Beautification Day is Saturday, August 22 from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed at every DC public school to paint, sweep, and do general cleanup. The first day of school is August 24 (much to the chagrin of my third-grader) and it's always nice for the students to come back to a clean, fresh school. Got Juice [Pouches]?

Greetings, everyone. I've signed up with TerraCycle to collect juice pouches (Capri Sun-type ones) to raise money for Malcolm X Elementary School. TerraCycle (www.terracycle.org) collects these juice pouches, along with candy wrappers and other items that we find on the ground far too often, and recycles them into bags, clothing articles, etc. For every 100 pouches collected, they'll send a check to Malcolm X for $20.
